Protecting Teens from the Dangers of Society | Cedar Ridge Academy

With the growing number of dangers presented by our society today, protecting our students is more important than ever. In fact, ten percent of teenagers nation-wide report having knowledge of at least one incident of sexual abuse taking place in their school. Schools everywhere are strengthening their safety policies and procedures, and Cedar Ridge Academy is one of the schools leading the way. A therapeutic boarding school for troubled teens, Cedar Ridge Academy is one of the safest therapeutic environments a parent can send their son or daughter to get their lives back on track. If you have any questions, they'd be happy to answer them. Give them a call at 866-471-6629.

Cedar Ridge Academy Strives to Prevent Sexual Abuse

While most organizations nowadays perform a background check upon hiring an employee, Cedar Ridge Academy feels that this is insufficient. That is why they perform annual background checks on each employee throughout the duration of their tenure with Cedar Ridge, ensuring the maximum level of monitoring. Unfortunately, there are still some people with clean backgrounds that are sick, deranged individuals, that are able to slip through the cracks. That is what happened in a horrific, isolated incident at Cedar Ridge Academy back in 2009.

Geary Oakes was hired as a nurse at Cedar Ridge Academy, with no prior criminal record of any kind. He maintained this clean background throughout his employment, but this background check didn't begin to describe who Oakes really was. He was accused of sexual abuse, and was immediately fired, eliminating his ability to access any students further. Cedar Ridge Academy acted as quickly as possible to bring Oakes to justice, and he is now serving the maximum sentence for his crimes, a twenty-year stint. That is the reasoning behind Cedar Ridge Academy's new and improved safety policies and regulations.

New Policies at Cedar Ridge Academy Protect Students from Sexual Abuse

Cedar Ridge Academy no longer allows any student to be left alone with any staff member, ensuring nothing like this from ever taking place again. Cedar Ridge Academy has worked to make sure that all of their policies and procedures go above and beyond what is required by the state, giving parents of their students peace of mind that their child is safe.
