Christian Counselors Serving Troubled Teens
Christian counselors who work with troubled teens, serving both boys and girls and their parents, should be one of the first steps to seeking therapeutic treatment for a troubled teenager. For parents of the Christian faith, seeking the help from a Christ-centered counselor is a wise choice when faced with turmoil and crisis brought about by a struggling child. For immediate help in locating the right fit for your troubled boy or troubled girl please call 866-439-8112. We can help you find a Christian counselor in your area. Our Family Advocates will listen to your story, pray with you, and help you find the right Christ-centered counselor in your area.
We help parents of troubled teens to understand that Christian counseling is very different from secular counseling. Christian counseling rises to another level of counseling (spiritual in nature). For parents of faith this is very important. Christian counselors are able to take the counseling process to the "spiritual level", because they base their counseling approach on the Bible. For a Christian parent this is very comforting. Secular counselour, even good ones, set their counseling approach from the latest psychological developments/findings (humanistic), or newest societal norm.
The reason secular counseling is failing the Christ-centered family is due to the secular counselor's method of practice. The main objective to secular counseling is constantly moving, which makes it hard to get to the root of a problem. When "the real problem" of the child is a moving target, explained through a victimstance, its hard to mesh with Christian values and truths. Basically, secular counselors undermine the Christian beliefs about responsibility, morality, and character. Within secular counseling values the standards of behavior are much different. Most importantly, secular counseling lacks the ability to recognize the spiritual motives behind an individual’s decision making process. Christians believe that "a sinful nature" is behind negative behavior, and secular counselors do not.
Our recommendation to Christian parents of troubled teens is to seek Christian counselors as the first line of defense (first therapeutic option).
2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."
