Unless your troubled teen is a danger to him/herself, to others, or to property, we do not recommend placing him/her in a residential program prior to extensive intervention at home. Going through the rigors of parenting troubled teens may enable you to save him/her without the emotional and financial costs of residential care. Residential care for troubled teens is eventually deemed necessary if the situation that their struggling teen is dangerous to others, himself, or if parents of these struggling teens feel that it is necessary.

When looking for the correct facility, parents of struggling teens will go into the process with your eyes wide open, having educated yourself on the reality of both exceptional, and critically substandard programs. You're on the path to insight and solutions. Perhaps intervention is necessary, but if you are considering placement in some form of treatment, consider TTS to advice you on the correct way to handle troubled boys and girls. As time is often of the essence when it comes to troubled teens, act quickly, but act wisely.
